About the Club

History

The Phnom Penh Kendo Club was established in 2009 to introduce and promote kendo in Cambodia.
There were three kenshi expats – desperately missing kendo – decided to get together and do kendo in Cambodia for the very first time over a meal of sushi.

Adam McNeil, Hiroyuki Takeuchi and Kanako Kobayashi founded the Phnom Penh Kendo Club in June 2009, along with Victor Aguayo, who joined the trio 6 months later.

Currently, this is the only kendo club in Cambodia.
It is open to all nationalities, age, gender and skill are not issues.

PPKC Logo

This club logo from 2009–2014 was designed by Dr. Fuyuki Makino.

The club’s current logo (below, 2015) is designed by Veejay Joson.
Based on the Japanese family kamon design, the PPKC had chosen Cambodia’s national flower – the rumdul – as their symbol.

The idea is to assimilate kendo’s very Japanese roots in the design of the logo, whilst maintaining PPKC’s national identity as a Cambodian club.
